Beauty Beyond the Lens: My Jaxson Dart Celestial 1/1

2025 Panini Phoenix Jaxson Dart Paragon Celestial — 1/1, PSA 10

The chase for a Jaxson Dart 1/1—and the excitement of my first PSA 10.

I first learned about the Celestial while reading through the checklist for the upcoming Panini Phoenix release. As I explored the different inserts and parallels, one card immediately stood apart from everything else: the Paragon Celestial 1/1.

It wasn’t simply the fact that it was a one-of-one. Modern products are filled with one-of-one cards, but very few feel genuinely unique. The Celestial looked different. Even in Panini’s preview images, the design had an almost cosmic quality that seemed to blur the line between a sports card and a piece of artwork. Rather than relying on an autograph or memorabilia to create its appeal, the card’s beauty came entirely from its design and finish.

At that moment, I decided that if a Jaxson Dart Celestial ever surfaced, it would become one of my highest priorities.

Once Phoenix began reaching collectors, I checked eBay almost daily, waiting to see whether the Dart would appear. Eventually it did.

The decision wasn’t difficult.

I knew this was one of those opportunities that might never come around again.

The listing photos showed a beautiful card, but they couldn’t fully capture what makes the Celestial special. In person, the finish comes alive. As light moves across the surface, layers of color emerge and disappear, creating depth and movement that simply don’t translate through a camera lens. Every slight change in angle reveals something different, making the card feel almost alive in your hands.

As someone who enjoys photography, I found that especially fascinating. I spent considerable time trying to photograph the card, only to realize that no single image could accurately represent it. Every photo captured one version of the card while leaving out dozens of others created by the shifting light. It remains one of the few cards in my collection that truly has to be experienced in person to be fully appreciated. Every photo session produces images I’m proud of, but none of them quite do the card justice.

Sending a one-of-one card to PSA always comes with a certain amount of anxiety. There is no replacement if something goes wrong, and unlike a more common card, there isn’t another copy waiting to be purchased. Every decision carries a little more weight.

When the grading results arrived and I saw the Gem Mint 10, it became one of the most memorable moments of my collecting journey.

It was my first PSA 10, making the accomplishment even more meaningful. The grade elevated an already exceptional card into something I consider irreplaceable—a true one-of-one featuring one of Panini Phoenix’s most beautiful finishes, preserved in Gem Mint condition.

Looking back, I originally chased this card because only one existed.

Today, that’s only part of the story.

The Celestial represents the moment my collection stopped being a group of rare cards and started becoming a carefully curated collection built around cards that evoke something beyond rarity alone. It reminds me that the very best cards aren’t always the most expensive or the most famous—they’re the ones that leave a lasting impression every time you pick them up.

For me, this is one of those cards.
