Finding Value Where Others Weren’t Looking
2025 Panini National Treasures Emerald NFL Shield Patch 5/5 PSA 10
One of the things I enjoy most about collecting isn’t simply owning great cards—it’s finding them. Sometimes that means spending months searching for the right copy. Other times, it means recognizing an opportunity that almost everyone else overlooked. That’s exactly what happened with my 2025 Panini National Treasures Emerald NFL Shield Patch 5/5 PSA 10.
This is the best National Treasures Jaxson Dart card in my collection, and every time I look at it, I’m reminded that patience, research, and a willingness to take calculated risks can be just as valuable as a big budget. When this card appeared at auction, several things immediately caught my attention.
The seller had listed it as a Laundry Tag instead of an NFL Shield Patch. To many collectors, that might not sound like a big difference, but in the world of National Treasures, it absolutely is. Most collectors searching specifically for NFL Shield cards would likely never have found the listing, dramatically reducing the number of potential bidders.
The auction ended in the middle of the day on a Friday. Many collectors were at work or simply weren’t watching auctions at that time, which meant fewer bidders competing for an already overlooked card.
This was the seller’s very first sale on eBay. For many buyers, that’s enough reason to move on. With no established feedback, bidding can feel like a gamble, especially on a high-end card. I completely understood why many collectors probably chose to pass.
After looking through the listing, I decided it was a risk worth taking. Sometimes the best opportunities come from situations where other buyers simply aren’t comfortable participating. The timing couldn’t have been better either.
National Treasures had just been released, and two similar Emerald NFL Shield Patch cards had already sold for significantly more while excitement around the product was at its highest. By the time this card appeared, some of that initial release hype had begun to settle. Combined with the incorrect listing title and the first-time seller, it created the perfect storm for an overlooked auction. I still can’t believe what I was able to buy it for.
In fact, I later purchased another Emerald NFL Shield Patch for more than I paid for this one. That second copy is currently waiting to be graded, and I’m optimistic it will receive either a PSA 9 or PSA 10. My plan has always been to compare the two before eventually selling one. But this card has always felt like the one I’ll keep.
It’s already a PSA 10, removing the uncertainty of grading, and it’s also serial numbered 5/5—the final card produced in the print run. While some collectors love first-on-print cards, there’s something satisfying to me about owning the last example ever made.
Beyond the story of how I acquired it, I simply love the design. National Treasures is one of my favorite football products, and I think the Dual Patch design is one of the cleanest Panini has ever created. I own several Dart Dual Patch cards, but this one immediately stands apart because one of those patches is an NFL Shield. That single detail transforms an already beautiful card into something far more memorable.
For me, this card represents everything I enjoy about collecting. It wasn’t the most expensive purchase. It wasn’t the result of a bidding war. It came from paying attention, trusting my research, and being willing to take a calculated chance when the opportunity presented itself.
Every time I look at it, I’m reminded that sometimes the best cards aren’t just found. They’re discovered. And that’s a story I’ll always remember every time I see this card in my collection.
